10 Steps to Success

Plan your next steps as an F-1 status student at Marymount. We encourage you to complete tasks in the order listed!

Request Your I-20

  • Enrolled Marymount students who plan to change their visa type by applying for an F-1 visa while traveling out of the U.S. should follow the same instructions provided for New Student: Initial I-20.

  • Enrolled Marymount students who plan to request Change of Status to F-1 through application to USCIS while remaining in the U.S. should read Change of Visa Status.
Proof of Funding

All international students who request an I-20 (Initial and Transfer) must submit a Marymount University Declaration of Finances form and proof of funding document(s) to show funding for the estimated total cost of at least one academic year of their program.

  • Please read requirements carefully before submitting your proof of funding documentation. Proof of funding submitted that does not meet Marymount's requirements will be returned and may cause delay in I-20 issuance.

  • The estimated total cost for your program is found on the Declaration of Finances form.

F-1 Visa/Status Next Steps in the Process

Once your I-20 is issued, next steps:
      F-1 International Student Orientation

All international students who are new to F-1 status or who are transferring-in their F-1 status are required to attend Marymount University's F-1 International Student Orientation.

  • F-1 orientations are usually held the Friday prior to the start of classes for the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Students beginning their program in Summer should request to meet with an ISSS advisor for a briefing at the start of their program and plan to attend the Fall orientation session for full information.

  • Note: the F-1 orientation is separate from your new undergraduate student orientation hosted by the Office of Admissions or graduate student orientation hosted by your academic department.

Initial Immigration Check-In
(mandatory for all F-1 status students)

Upon arrival in the U.S. and to Marymount, you must complete your Immigration Check-In with Marymount's Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).

  • For programs starting in the Fall or Spring semester, Immigration Check-In is completed during F-1 International Student Orientation.

  • For programs starting in the Summer term, Immigration Check-In must be completed at the start of the Summer term. (Students also attend Fall orientation.)

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
