10 Steps to Success
Plan your next steps as an International Student here at Marymount. We strongly encourage you to complete the tasks in the order listed.
Request Your I-20
- Newly admitted students who plan to apply for F-1 status while out of the U.S. should read New Student: Initial I-20.
- Transfer students from another U.S. institution who have valid F-1 status and are admitted to transfer to Marymount University should read Transfer Student: Transfer SEVIS Record / I-20.
- Enrolled Marymount students who plan to change their visa type by applying for an F-1 visa while traveling out of the U.S. should follow the same instructions provided for New Student: Initial I-20.
- Enrolled Marymount students who plan to request Change of Status to F-1 through application to USCIS while remaining in the U.S. should read Change of Visa Status.
All international students who request an I-20 (Initial and Transfer) must submit a Marymount University Declaration of Finances form and proof of funding document(s) to show funding for the estimated total cost of at least one academic year of their program. Please read requirements carefully before submitting your proof of funding documentation.
F-1 Visa/Status Next Steps in the Process
Once your I-20 is issued, next steps:
- For students issued an Initial I-20: F-1 Visa: Application Process
- For students issued a Transfer-In I-20: International Student Orientation and Initial Immigration Check-In
- For students issued a Change of Status I-20: Submit Application for Change of Status in the U.S. to USCIS
All international students who are either new to F-1 status or who are transferring-in are required to attend Marymount University's new International Student Orientation. For orientation information and to register, please click here.
Initial Immigration Check-In
(mandatory for F-1 status students)
Once you arrive in the United States, you must complete your Immigration Check-In with Marymount's Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Immigration Check-In is usually completed during new International Student Orientation. To learn more: Initial Immigration Check-In.
